Each Spring the WHOI volunteers gather to get geared up for a new season. As part of the April 2010 gathering, volunteers were coached by engineering assistant Tito Collasius (seated, left) on how to use a robotic manipulator arm at the Ocean Science Exhibit Center. Volunteer Jim Endress (seated, right) listens to instructions as he waits for his turn at the controls. The volunteer program is coordinated by the WHOI Information Office and has an average of 85 active volunteers who assist in various ways, including leading the summer walking tours, welcoming visitors to the Ocean Science Exhibit Center and giving presentations to visiting groups.
