Senior Scientist Christopher Reddy (center), director of the Costal Ocean Institute (COI), describes to guests aboard the R/V Tioga how dissolved oxygen levels are measured. In an effort to expand WHOI's presence locally, COI initiated a collaboration with several non-governmental organizations, state and local officials, and industry to study dissolved oxygen levels in Buzzards Bay this past summer. There is evidence that the overall health of the Bay is deteriorating and that low levels of dissolved oxygen compromise marine life. WHOI Summer Student Fellow Jon Fincke (red life vest), an undergraduate student at the University of New Hampshire, led WHOI's sampling effort over the summer at several stations in Buzzards Bay.
