Neil Armstrong was assembled over the course of three years at the Dakota Creek Industries (DCI) shipyard in Anacortes, Washington, using a technique known as modular block construction. Each of the main hull sections was built separately and then welded together. Here, workers attach the ships bow section to the nearly finished hull.
