Image Of the Day caption:
WHOI's Jeff Donnelly, Michael Toomey, Andrea Hawkes, and Richard Sullivan (Left to right) gathered data from the R/V Arenaria in July in the waters of Newfoundland, Canada, to reconstruct a record of past climate. The team has collected sediment core samples from different bay locations in the area in order to develop winter storm records and identify the frequency and intensity of hurricanes. The team also analyzed microorganisms within the cores to indentify changes in North Atlantic ocean circulation over the past several thousand years and visited marshes in the hopes of finding evidence of changes in sea level.
