Summer Student Fellow Ashley Grey investigates a corals response to rising ocean temperatures while working in the lab of WHOI scientist Anne Cohen. During the summer of 2013, Grey located and analyzed stress bands in coral skeleton formed when seawater becomes too hot for the the organism. The particular sample Grey is looking at is from Palau, but samples from across the tropics are helping scientists understand which coral reef ecosystems becoming stressed as a result of global warming.
