2014 Summer Student Fellows hands-on, one-day, ocean sampling cruise out into Buzzards Bay onboard the R/V Tioga. This cruise focuses on data collection and sampling methods with advanced oceanographic technology and instruments.
Image Of the Day caption:
Summer Student Fellows (front row, left to right) William Shinevar (Brown University), Lily Helfrich (Northwestern University), Maya Becker (Columbia University), Jacob Forsyth (Bowdoin College), (back row, left to right) Karter Harmon (Indiana University), and Filip Buksa (University of Split, Croatia) take a break from gathering samples aboard R/V Tioga to learn how to plot a course on a nautical chart with crew member Ian Hanley. The students were part of a day trip in Buzzards Bay to get hands-on experience with oceanographic tools. The excursion is one of the most popular activities of the Summer Student Fellowship Program, a 10-to-12-week undergraduate program that encourages rising seniors to chart their own careers in ocean science.
