Image Of the Day caption:
Research asssociate Carolina Nobre snapped this shot from the bridge of R/V Knorr during one of three O-SNAP cruises to the North Atlantic this summer. The Overturning in the Subpolar North Atlantic Program, which is funded for five years by the National Science Foundation, will allow scientists to continuously measure ocean currents over the entire subpolar region of the North Atlantic for the first time. Among other objectives, 25 moorings were deployed on this cruise to simultaneously monitor the warmer, more saline, northward-flowing currents and the cold, fresher currents flowing southward.
