This TREET connection was from the Inner Space Center at URI and the connection was with a classroom at Duke University. Transforming Remotely-conducted Research through Ethnography, Education & Rapidly Evolving Technologies (TREET) represents research at the complex interface between scientific fieldwork, new educational opportunities for students, and the expanding use of telepresence technologies to make remote exploration available to scientists, students, and the general public.
Image Of the Day caption:
In the fall of 2014, undergraduate science students watched live video and data from the Caribbean in the University of Rhode Island's Inner Space Center during an expedition investigating deep-sea release of methane, a potent greenhouse gas. The students were participating in the TREET project (Transforming Remotely-conducted Research through Ethnography, Education, and rapidly evolving Technologies). Led by WHOI geochemist Chris German, TREET blended three types of research: oceanographic; educational; and ethnographicanalyzing the evolving culture and practices of digital, remote scientific inquiry.
