Image Of the Day caption:
Instructor Bruce Tripp (left) watched WHOI Summer Student Fellows Jerry Fontus (Georgia Institute of Technology) and Julia Lanoue (Brown University) as they deployed a CTD water sampling rosette off the fantail of R/V Tioga during a day of ocean sampling in Buzzards Bay. A CTD rosette measuress conductivity, temperature, and depth (hence the name) and also collects water samples at precise depths beneath the surface. The cruise is one of the high points of Fellows' time in Woods Hole, and provides an opportunity for them to learn how to work on a research cruise with some common ocean science instruments.
