Image Of the Day caption:
Stanford microbiologist Anne Dekas works from the Inner Space Center at the University of Rhode Island to lead a team of scientists participating in the first leg of an Alvin training cruise while another team works with the sub on board R/V Atlantis. The EAGER expedition is designed to give young scientists experience in planning and executing an Alvin cruise and in taking advantage of the newly upgraded sub and its ability to work in tandem with the autonomous underwater vehicle Sentry. Dekas and her team are currently at sea on the second leg of the cruise, which is being shared via video and social media.
