Image Of the Day caption:
Captain Rodolfo Jose Cattaneo of the Argentine research vessel Dr. Bernardo Houssay holds a photo of another captain who preceded him on the same ship, Arthur David Colburn, Jr. The photo was presented to Capt. Cattaneo by Colburn's daughter, Susan Nevler, who was in Argentina recently on a family trip. Colburn was the last captain of the ship when it sailed as Atlantis, the first WHOI ship and the first vessel purpose-built in the U.S. to carry out oceanographic research. It was transferred to Argentina in 1966 and continues to operate as part of the country's coast guard (Prefectura Naval Argentina). Colburn's son, A.D., also sails for WHOI as master of the current Atlantis and began his final voyage on the ship today.
