Last Saturday, the wake lay straight behind the ship. The next day, May 3, was the last time that we pulled up to a big enough piece of ice for a large group of scientists to go out and work.
Image of The Day caption:
With a wake of broken ice straight behind the ship, the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Healy heads home after a 38-day expedition to study how climate change is affecting the delicately balanced ecosystem of the Bering Sea. Led by WHOI biologist Carin Ashjian, the research team included 41 scientists from 14 different scientific institutions across the country. The expedition was featured as a "Live From the Poles" expedition on the WHOI Polar Discovery site.
