Collected from the Celebes Sea in September 2007.
Image of The Day caption:
On a 2006 cruise to explore the deep Celebes Sea in Philippines waters, expedition scientists collected this 3-centimeter (1.25-inch) isopod ? a relative of land-based pill bugs ? using a collection chamber mounted on a remotely operated vehicle. It uses its very long legs to ?crawl? through the water. The cruise was led by Laurence Madin of the WHOI Biology Department.
