Image of The Day caption:
Recent college graduates Dana Giffen, left, and Seth Zippel experienced the realities of oceanographic fieldwork during the summer of 2009 with WHOI scientists Britt Raubenheimer and Steve Elgar. Together, the group studied water movement and sediment transport on the Skagit tidal flats in northern Puget Sound by setting tripods with current meters and other instruments out on the tidal flats. Massive gobs of the alga Ulva fouled the sensors almost every day.
