DynAMITE cruise onboard R/V Knorr, KN200-06. Ruth Curry, Chief Scientist.
Image of the Day caption:
The sun sets behind RV Knorr during a cruise to the Bermuda Rise in 2011 to work on the Dynamics of Abyssal Mixing and Interior Transports Experiment, or DynaMITE. Chief scientist Ruth Curry, a physical oceanographer at WHOI, led a team of researchers investigating the processes by which very dense waters are transformed into warmer, less dense waters, which helps drive the circulation of the global Ocean Conveyor. The scientists used an array of moored profilers and the High Resolution Profiler to develop a finely detailed profile of flow and other properties throughout the water column.
