Summer at WHOI means college students on campus for the WHOI Summer Student Fellowship. In August 2012, Columbia University's Sebastian Vivancos, a student in the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences, greeted Great Harbor off Cape Cod while riding on the bowsprit of the coastal research vessel Tioga. The day-long trip, focused on marine data collection and sampling methods with oceanographic technology and instruments, is a highlight of the program. Each student is paired with a WHOI scientist for mentoring; during Vivancos' fellowship, he worked with WHOI paleooceanographer Delia Oppo.
