Image Of the Day caption:
Before starting their first year as graduate students in the MIT-WHOI Joint Program in Oceanography/Applied Ocean Science and Engineering, incoming students spend ten days at sea on a sailing vessel operated by the Sea Education Association (SEA). During these "Jake Peirson Summer Cruises" in the North Atlantic, students get to know each other, learn basic oceanographic and sailing information, and experience life at sea, often for the first time. During the 2012 trip, aboard SEA's SSV Corwith Cramer, Captain Elliot Rappaport holds a poster and talks to the new students about local weather systems.
