Image Of the Day caption:
For many people, a mid-life reassessment may prompt the loss of a few pounds or inches. For R/V Knorr, entering mid-life meant adding on34 feet, to be exact. After several months in a shipyard, Knorr emerged in much of the configuration it would carry for the rest of its career with WHOI. This month, Knorr completes nearly 45 years and 1.3 million miles as part of the U.S. oceanographic fleet and secures its place at the forefront of ocean exploration. In 2015, Knorr will be replaced by a new ship named after the first person to walk on the moon––Neil Armstrong.
