Image Of the Day caption:
A pilot boat pulls away from R/V Atlantis as it departed Charleston, S.C., recently on a mission to the site of the sunken cargo ship El Faro. The WHOI team on board will use the autonomous underwater vehicle Sentry, visible in the foreground, to search for the ships voyage data recorder (VDR) and map the seafloor around the El Faro, which sank to a depth of approximately 4600 meters (15,000 feet) between Florida and the Bahamas. Their findings will help investigators determine why and how the ship sank.
