Image Of the Day caption:
Fifty years after the MIT-WHOI Joint Program in Oceanography was established, the four most recent graduates of the program were awarded degrees in 2018: (from left) Lt. Ryan Conway (Applied Ocean Physics & Engineering), Dehann Fourie (Applied Ocean Physics & Engineering), Laura Stevens (Geology & Geophysics), and Genevieve Brett (Physical Oceanography). To date, the program has awarded 1,053 degrees (764 doctoral, 58 engineers, and 231 masters degrees). Since 1999, it has had roughly an equal split between men and women, and between 2013 and 2017, 59 percent of the Ph.D.s were awarded to women. The MIT-WHOI Joint Program celebrated the golden anniversary of its unique partnership last week with a symposium at MIT and festivities at MIT and WHOI.
