Image Of the Day caption:
WHOI Summer Student Fellow Rachel Gold (Brown University) examines a sediment core from Lake Carmi, Vermont. The sediments provide evidence of an inland seaformerly known as the Champlain Seathat flooded the region at the end of the last Ice Age when the Saint Lawrence Seaway opened as glaciers retreated. Golds research project, which was conducted under the direction of WHOI geologist Jeff Donnelly, involved determining the timing of this event to better understand how meltwater entering the North Atlantic through this new channel affected ocean circulation and climate.
