Image Of the Day caption:
The free-swimming robotic vehicle Sentry has had many faces over the years, often thanks to WHOI engineer and electrical tape artist Justin Fujii. In honor of Sentrys 500th dive last month, WHOI took a poll of its Twitter followers to determine what the vehicle should wear to celebrate the occasion. With 46 percent of the vote, Wonder Woman was the clear winner. The WHOI-designed-and-operated vehicle can dive to 3.7 miles below the surface and has helped scientists map the seafloor, track the Deepwater Horizon oil spill, locate the voyage data recorder from the sunken El Faro cargo ship, and carry out many other missions to help us better understand our ocean and planeta wonder, indeed.
