During a bloom, Pseudo-nitzschia float everywhere in the water. Filter feeding shellfish such as clams indiscriminately suck in large volumes of water containing toxin-producing Pseudo-nitzschia. If we harvest and cook these shellfish, the toxins end up on our plates.
