OK, if you don't tell Chris I told you, I'll tell you the true story about this photo. We're all equipped with portable phones on Oden, and mine rang. "Do you have your red jacket on?" It was Chris. "No," I said, "but I could get it." I did, and Chris told me to go down to the first deck and stand in a particular spot. He wanted to photograph the massive ice blocks that were bursting, lurching, thrashing, whooshing, cracking, bobbing, and somersaulting along Oden's side as the icebreaker busted its way through a dense ice pack, en route to a rendezvous with Puma. In their own ways, both the ice and the icebreaker were awesome to watch. How big were the ice chunks? Well, you can tell, because I am there to provide a sense of scale ... and maybe a dash of color.
