From all of us who took part in this historic expedition to the Gakkel Ridge, we bid you farewell. For the third Polar Discovery expedition, photographer Chris Linder and writer Hugh Powell will be headed south, joining two different research teams on the continent of Antarctica. The first team will investigate permafrost in the Dry Valleys near McMurdo Station. The second group of scientists is examining the effects of climate change on Adelie penguin populations. Check back in late November for the first photo essays from Antarctica.
