Image Of the Day caption:
The Synergy project at the Museum of Science in Boston until June 2 highlights works of art created by artists paired with ocean scientists. Anastasia Azure collaborated with WHOI oceanographer Larry Pratt, who studies the fluid dynamics and weaved hand-dyed fishing line to create a sculpture on the far wall that represents the patterns Pratt investigates, revealing "the inner life of waters turbulent motion and swirling beauty." On the right, Karen Ristuben created a sculpture based on MIT-WHOI graduate student Sophie Chus research into ocean acidification. The eggshells, corroded with acidic vinegar, have the same calcium carbonate composition as shells of snails and other marine life.
