Mark Abbott, the tenth President and Director of WHOI, arrived at the Institution for his first official day on Thursday, October 1, to a welcoming committee of his new co-workers in Fenno House. Abbott comes to WHOI from Oregon State University, where he was dean of the College of Earth, Ocean, and Atmospheric Sciences. His research focuses on the interaction of biological and physical processes in the upper ocean and over the years, he has been tapped to advise a variety of state and federal agencies on issues including climate change, national security, and ocean science infrastructure.
