Image Of the Day caption:
MIT-WHOI Joint Program students Cory Berger (left) and Logan Tegler (right) prepare water samples in the lab aboard the Sea Education Association's Corwith Cramer during this year's Jake Peirson Summer Cruise. On the cruise, students learn basic oceanographic techniques such as retrieving water samples from various depths using a collection of Niskin bottleslong tubes open at both ends that can be sealed shut on command from the surface, closing seawater inside. Once returned to the surface, these samples can be analyzed to determine pH, alkalinity, and chlorophyll concentrations, fundamental measurements that many of the students will repeat hundreds of times throughout their career.
Approximate date, camera clock was incorrectly set.
