Image Of the Day caption:
The research vessel Alucia arrived in Woods Hole, Mass., for the first time on Saturday, August 25. The ship was re-fit in 2011 and, since that time, WHOI has played a range of roles in its management. Over the past seven years, Alucia has traveled the world performing a wide variety of ocean science and media missions, many of which have featured WHOI scientists, including expeditions to study sperm whales off the coast of New Zealand, radiation in the waters and beaches of the Marshall Islands, and the health of pristine coral reefs in Cuba. Next month, Alucia will be exploring the Northeast Canyons and Seamounts Marine National Monument with WHOI biologist Tim Shank.
