Image Of the Day caption:
Surface buoys stand outside the Laboratory for Ocean Sensors and Observing Systems at WHOI, where they undergo testing before deployment at sea. These five Coastal Profiler Moorings and one Coastal Surface Mooring (with solar panel) are part of the National Science Foundation-funded Ocean Observatories Initiative (OOI) Pioneer Array, a networked observatory of instruments monitoring the ocean off New England that delivers data to scientists and the public. In addition to Pioneer, WHOI manages and operates four global arrays in the North and South Atlantic and Pacific Oceans that WHOI's OOI team plans to visit annually to maintan for the next 25 years.
