Image Of the Day caption:
WHOI technicians Jeff Pietro (left) and Kris Newhall work on the stern of R/V Knorr to prepare a connection between jacketed wire rope and electromechanical cable on a moored coastal profiler. In the water, the wire rope (thin wire in center foreground) will support a McLane Moored Profiler. The electrical connections allow data to be transmitted from the profiler to a surface buoy, and from there to a satellite and to shore. The profiler and mooring are part of the initial installation of the Ocean Observatories Initiative's Pioneer Array which took place from November 20 to 26, 2013, about 100 miles south of Woods Hole on the edge of the continental shelf.
