Image of The Day caption:
WHOI Assistant Engineer Jeff Pietro sends a group of flotation spheres to the deck of the R/V Atlantic Explorer in preparation for a mooring deployment in the Sargasso Sea. Six moorings were installed down the southeast flank of Bermuda Rise at seafloor depths ranging from 4,000 to 6,000 meters as part of DynAMITE (Dynamics of Abyssal Mixing and Interior Transports Experiment). The instruments will measure the currents flowing past Bermuda for 18 months as part of this study of deep circulation in the Atlantic Ocean. The cruise was headed by Ruth Curry, a WHOI Senior Research Specialist in Physical Oceanography.
