WHOI's Ocean Observatory Initiative (OOI) Program Manager, Paul Matthias, sits in front of two coastal surface-piercing profilers. Deployment of the instruments recently marked the completion the six-year design and build phase of OOI, an NSF-funded network of moorings and autonomous underwater vehicles that will provide scientists with meteorological and oceanographic data from key locations around the world. This data will enable scientists to examine important coastal, regional, and global processes in near real-time.
