Image Of the Day caption:With it's live broadcasts and imaging and lighting systems donated by James Cameron, the hybrid remotely operated vehicle (HROV) Nereus is the star attraction of the ongoing Oases 2013 cruise. But the CTD (conductivity, temperature, depth) rosette still played its usual workhorse role in hunting down plumes associated with active hydrothermal vent sites on the Cayman Rise. The instrument allows researchers to measure physical and chemical properties of the water at various depths and then capture water samples in the gray bottles attached around the rosette frame.
