The May 12, 2008, earthquake just north of Chengdu, China, relieved stress along the Longmen Shan fault, but it shifted more stress onto
three neighboring faults, researchers say. Yellows and reds indicate areas of heightened stress; blue indicates reduced stress. Black dots represent aftershocks from May 12 to 20.
