Image of The Day caption:
Pierre-J. Gauthier, a scientist with Laboratoire Magmas et Volcans in France, collects gas from the rim of Masaya Volcano in Nicaragua during a March 2006 expedition. Gauthier, a collaborator with WHOI geochemist Ken Sims, samples gas from volcanoes worldwide to explore how our planet is evolving and how volcanic gases cause climate changes that may even have led to the extinction of dinosaurs.
