WHOI engineer Kaitlyn Tradd works on SUPR-REMUS, a sampling device mounted on a vehicle called REMUS. It can sample plankton in shallow coastal waters.

WHOI engineer Kaitlyn Tradd works on a new sampling system called SUPR-REMUS. The device consists of a multi-sampling Suspended Particulate Rosette sampler (SUPR) mounted on a REMUS autonomous underwater vehicle. A group of WHOI researchers and engineers recently developed the system to study small planktonic larvae in shallow coastal water, where nets and pumpsthe traditional method of collecting these organismsare difficult to use. SUPR-REMUS collects discrete samples of small larval organisms for DNA identification, yielding insight into current and future populations of bottom-dwelling marine life.
