Image Of the Day caption:
Two vessels in the U.S. academic research fleet, Atlantis (foreground) and Neil Armstrong, rest stern-to-stern in dry dock in Charlotte, S.C. The two ships, both operated by WHOI, were hauled out in December 2015. R/V Atlantis is receiving scheduled maintenance, while R/V Neil Armstrong, which was recently transferred to WHOI from the Office of Naval Research, is having science equipment installed prior to testing. Neil Armstrong will begin science verification cruises in February before arriving at Woods Hole in April. Armstrong will begin full operations in spring 2016.
