Image Of the Day caption:
During a recent cruise on R/V Neil Armstrong for the Overturning of the Subpolar North Atlantic Program (OSNAP), WHOI scientist Bob Pickart and his team sent a small boat out to photograph this iceberg. The researchers deployed moorings near Greenland, where icebergs are commonPickart counted 17 of them near one of the mooring sites. During the first two years of OSNAP, some of the moorings were hit by bergs and survived the encounters, returning nearly all their data. The moorings were deployed for another two years in the summer of 2016.
