Image Of the Day caption:
WHOI engineer Daniel Gomez-Ibanez prepares WHOI's newest autonomous underwater vehicle, Clio, for its recent sea trials from research vessel Neil Armstrong. The white cylinder Gomez-Ibanez is working on is called a SUPR Sampler and was designed and built by former WHOI engineer Chip Breier, now a professor at the University of Texas, Rio Grande Valley. It contains a series of filters that automatically collect samples of particles as Clio moves vertically through the water. Scientists analyze the samples to study the biogeochemical health of the ocean.
