Image Of the Day caption:
On June 14, the submersible DEEPSEA CHALLENGER completed a cross-country trip from California to Cape Cod, arriving just as the sun broke through the clouds in Woods Hole (shown here). Explorer and director James Cameron designed the sub to dive to the deepest parts of the ocean and in 2012 used it to reach Challenger Deep, 35,787 feet beneath the surface of the Pacific. In March, he donated the sub and associated technology to WHOI in an effort to help foster development of new manned and robotic vehicles.
