Image Of the Day caption:
The "Ocean Institutes Science Fair" at the fall 2015 Board and Corporation meeting at WHOI featured displays describing research supported by the four WHOI Ocean Institutes. Here, scientist Robert Todd (light blue shirt), discusses his work supported by the Ocean and Climate Change Institute with Ted Tregurtha (far left) and Tom Kehler, members of the OCCI Committee and the Corporation. Todd uses autonomous underwater gliders to collect long-term, high-resolution data on water properties in the Gulf Stream. Gliders, including the yellow Slocum glider and the orange Spray glider seen here, fly through the ocean on their own for weeks or months, sending back data via satellite.
