The increased flow of ice from glaciers in Greenland and Antarctica has tripled the contribution of continental ice sheets to global sea level rise over the last 20 years. Since 2008, WHOI physical oceanographer Fiamma Straneo (pictured) and a team of scientists and students have used helicopters, ice breakers, fishing boats, moorings, and autonomous vehicles to better understand what is driving these changes. This week, Straneo will deliver the prestigious Sverdrup Lecture at the American Geophysical Union's Ocean Sciences meeting, where she will discuss some of her findings.
