WHOI Mooring Operations & Engineering lead John Kemp (center) and Senior Engineering Assistants Jim Dunn and Meghan Donohue work to add a YaleGrip to an electromagnetic (EM) cable during a scientific mooring deployment on the R/V Neil Armstrong. The team deployed moorings for two long-term ocean monitoring projects in the deep ocean off Greenland, the Overturning in the Subpolar North Atlantic Program (OSNAP) and the Ocean Observatories Initiative (OOI). Both projects are multi-institution collaborations funded by the National Science Foundation. NSF recently selected WHOI to lead the continuation of OOI operations.
