WHOI public event, "Deep Ocean Exploration: Trenches", featuring talks in Redfield Auditorium and deep sea vehicles on display in Iselin high bay and out on the WHOI dock.
Image Of the Day caption:
WHOI volunteer Peter Partridge explains the hybrid remotely operated vehicle Nereus during a recent public event about deep ocean trenches. Partridge, who served aboard the Navy support vessel for Trieste, the first human-occupied vehicle to reach the Mariana Trench in 1960, is one of 85 active volunteers at WHOI. Volunteers also help out in the Ocean Science Exhibit Center, Information Office, Data Library & Archives, science labs, and on walking tours. Today, WHOI hosts its annual volunteer luncheon to recognize the important contribution they make throughout the Institution. To our dedicated volunteers: Thank you, we couldn't do it without you.
