Image Of the Day caption:
WHOI engineer Jennifer Batryn prepares instruments during a recent cruise to the Irminger Sea south of Greenland. The instruments have sensors to take a wide range of measurements in the ocean, including carbon dioxide and oxygen levels, salinity, and water temperature. The Irminger Sea is a region that plays a key role in the ocean's circulation and global climate. The instruments are part of the Ocean Observatories Initiative, a National Science Foundation-funded effort to collect long-term ocean data in strategic ocean locations and make them available to scientists via the internet.
