Bluefin AUV field tests at Ashumet Pond.
Image Of the Day caption:
This summer, WHOI robotics and acoustics researcher Erin Fischell (right) used autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs) called Bluefin SandSharks to record sounds in Ashumet Pond, Falmouth. Before deploying the lightweight, bright yellow AUVs in the water, Fischell tested them on land with the help of graduate student Oscar Viquez, who is studying mechanical engineering at MIT, to estimate vehicle noise and confirm that all systems were operational.
