On a recent visit, Admiral John Richardson (right), the U.S. Chief of Naval Operations, toured a number of the Institution's science and engineering facilities and heard from researchers about their international collaborations, as well as U.S.-based projects focused on climate, fisheries, and hurricanes. Hosted by WHOI President and Director Mark Abbott (center), Adm. Richardson was also briefed by physical oceanographer Robert Todd (left) about his work using gliders to understand how hurricanes affect the ocean and how the ocean, in turn, affects the growth of hurricanes.
