Caption from Oceanus magazine, Vol. 53, No. 1, pg. 52:
An ocean glider has no propeller and moves up and down in the water by changing its buoyancy. A glider cannot receive or transmit data under water. It has to surface to get a GPS reading on its position and to exchange data with scientists back on shore.
