Image Of the Day caption:
A buoy built at WHOI is deployed from the R/V Roger Revelle in the Pacific Ocean in 2016. The buoy, outfitted with dozens of sensors above and below the water, is part of the Salinity Processes in the Upper Ocean Regional Study (SPURS and SPURS-2), a NASA-supported research project to study salinity and small-scale mixing near the ocean surface. WHOI scientists are analyzing data on ocean salinity, mixing, and rainfall to better understand how Earth's atmosphere and ocean influence each other.
